A Patti Labelle Sunday

Do you know who Patricia Louise Holt-Edwards is... If you are a true Patti Labelle fan you do.
Ms. LaBelle began her career in the early 1960s as lead singer and front woman of the vocal group, Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles. Following the group's name change to Labelle in the early 1970s, she released the iconic disco song "Lady Marmalade" and the group later became the first  African American vocal group to land the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.

As we all know people grow and somethings are meant to be and since the break up of the Iconic Bluebelles group Ms. Labelle has moved on to build a solo career that makes us all bow to her greatness...from Grammy Awards, to #1 Hit Songs,#1 Hit Albums, Television, Movies, Legendary duets, Her own Sitcom, Books and even her own Pie! But there is nothing like when we see this Queen on the stage because her voice demands your attention and her performance requires your respect!

Eman Rimawi is a Black, Native American and Palestinian woman who lives in NYC. She began writing poetry and prose early in life. Her natural creativity steered her towards becoming a spoken-word 

 artist, educator, and youth organizer for dozens of non-profit organizations in New York City including The Audre Lorde Project, Fury, Casa Atabex Ache, The Jed Foundation. She went on to teach creative writing workshops to youth in New York City giving them a tool to express themselves and share their struggle in a positive way.

Rock Steady Tribue: Part 2

With great honor and joy we are glad to mention that due to the overwhelming response to the 1st Rock Steady Tribute where Poppa L's, CM Dubb and the Old School Flava Crew paid homage to the legendary group The Whispers. During the 1st edition of the Rock Steady Tribute we also celebrated the legacy of the late Mr. Nicholas Caldwell, Poppa L's thought it was only right to honor the special flava guest that took time out of their schedules to call in to share and reflect on their sacred memories with Mr. Nicholas Caldwell as well as The Whispers.

Rock Steady Sunday: A Tribute to the Legendary Whispers

As we move further into the New Year, we learn that some of our musical legends will not carry on the year with us physically but in spirit. As Poppa L's was getting ready to put together his playlist for this coming Sunday's show to pay tribute to one of the most Legendary groups of our time; "The Whispers"... we learned the group had suffered a great lost... Mr. Nicholas Caldwell who was a member of the group from 1964 to this present day... Passed away.

Mr. Caldwell went home to be with the Lord on January 5, 2016 at the age of 71 years Old. We will miss you and will always celebrate the contributions you and your brothers The Whispers gave to the world of music. Poppa L's, CM Dubb & the Old School Flava Crew will be joined by some Special Flava Guest who will be calling in to pay their respects and share some special moments about Mr. Caldwell. Please feel free to join us this Sunday the 17th at 4pm to pay tribute to the musical legacy of The Whispers and celebrate the life of Mr. Nicholas Caldwell.

Remebering Natalie Cole w/SFG Ms. Nadine Scott McKinnor

We get few legends in our life times and when they move on to be with the Lord it is only right that we celebrate the great contributions they gave to the world. So Poppa L's, CM Dubb and the Old School Flava Crew want to take this episode of the Poppa L's Old School Flava Sunday to celebrate the Great Natalie Cole.

In addition to celebrating Natalie Cole, Poppa L's called upon a Special Flava Guest Ms. Nadine Scott McKinnor who is a poet and writer of "This Christmas" by Donny Hathaway. We are also pleased to inform our listeners that Ms. Nadine Scott McKinnor is the cousin of the late Coretta Scott King, wife of the late Martin Luther King Jr. Only on Poetic Designs Radio will you get this much legendary presence.
